Potato Planting Saturday Afternoon!

From Ammie Chickering, Peacework Farm

Potato Planting Party Saturday! Our first “work party” of the season will be this Saturday afternoon (May 27) at 2:00 PM. We will be planting potatoes in our “Fairville Field” one mile up the road from the main farm. If you come late: from the farm driveway, turn left onto Welcher Road and stay straight (it becomes Arcadia-Zurich-Norris Road), cross the steel-deck bridge over the creek and continue about 1 mile to the intersection of A-Z-N Road and Fairville Station Road. (Look to your left; that’s our field.) Turn left onto Fairville Station Road and at the end of the row of evergreen trees, there’s a field entrance on your left. Children are welcome; they will need your guidance in placing the seed potatoes one foot apart. Come dressed for grubby work and bring your bug repellent: ticks, black flies and mosquitoes are all out! We’ll have a potluck supper back at the farm after planting. If the weather is overcast and misty, we’ll be OK but if it’s raining, we’ll have to cancel. If the weather looks doubtful, please call ahead: 315-398-4007.

The CSA starts next week! If you haven’t signed up yet for 2017, please do so now so you’ll be sure to be in the count when we start packing shares for June 1. If you’re having difficulty using the online sign-up, just let me know and I can sign you up. Call me at 315-398-4007 or email me at info@peaceworkcsa.org.

Abundance is now open till 9:00 PM. Rochester area members can leisurely do their shopping after CSA distribution is over (and so can we!).

Johnson Brothers Food Forest will have mushrooms available for sale to CSA members right from the start of our season. Johnson Brothers subleases land from us at Peacework Farm where they practice permaculture and grow culinary mushrooms. They are a separate business from the CSA, so to order from them you must sign up with them to receive weekly emails about what they have available. The link to their sign up form is: http://eepurl.com/b5qN09. We’ll bring your orders to Abundance for pick up during CSA distribution. For Newark members, orders will be in the Johnson Brothers’ fridge in our packing shed next to the fridges where you pick up your shares. For more information, contact Noah Johnson at 315-398-2245 or johnsonbrothersfoodforest@yahoo.com.
